Smoking Cannabis Doubles Risks

A huge study released recently following 1,000 people over the span of 25 years has shown that "Smoking cannabis virtually doubles the risk of developing mental illnesses such as schizophrenia". Interesting results and very surprising (at least i thought so). The mental illness comes from chemical changes in the brain, and can lead to "clear increase in rates of psychotic symptoms after the start of regular use." So everything in moderation people...not that weed is more dangerous than alcohol, but worth considering next time you reach for that joint. The Source

Also, a joint has 8 times more carcinogens than a cigarette.

Well the thing is, people smoke less joints - i.e. they share a single joint around the room, and smoke them less often than your typical cigarette smokers smokes cigarettes - they don't smoke a pack of joints a day. So in terms of sheer volume, cigarette inhalation tends to contribute more to cancer. But, going head to head, 1 joint vs 1 cigarette - the joint has more carcinogens.

What determines the number of carcinogens is what you're mixing the pot with - usually it's with cigarette tobacco and therefore a joint would have the same number of carcinogens as a cigarette. Regular pure marijuana doesn't have nearly the number (if any at all) of toxins in it that cigarette tobacco does - no one adds amoinia or thiazole to pot.
