A Victory for Private Healthcare


I don't know if you guys have read this in the news lately, but the Supreme Court has ruled against the ban on private healthcare in the province of Quebec. This is great news for all Canadians as everyone can benefit from the implementation of private clinics. With an aging population, rising healthcare costs, we cannot afford to keep paying for millionaires and rich elderly to receive free healthcare, it's just not sustainable by the younger generation. Healthcare worked when there were lots of Canadians to pay for the small number of elderly (boomers making large sums of money), today we need a real solution that works for all Canadians. I think the federal government should get off its high horse, set the guidelines that no person in Canada should be without healthcare, leave it up to the provinces to distribute the service as they see fit (it is a provincial jurisdiction and the Feds have no experience distributing healthcare). The federal government allows Quebec and Alberta to offer private care without fines, they have given small fines to BC, NS and Sask; but nothing substantial and the clinics are still open. Note that of the $121 billion in healthcare spending, the government pays 70% of this (Source: CBC). Quit pretending and let Canadians have access to what they deserve.

This isn't a victory for private healthcare at all, it is a victory against long waiting lists (specifically in Quebec). The fact that he received care at a private facility makes very little difference compared to the fact that he had been forced to wait a long time (he could have just as easily gone to the U.S. and made a big stink about it).

i also wanna say that i love our supreme court judges... i have yet to find a ruling that i have disagreed with them on. they are quite sensible and have done a tremendous job doing something that very few people would be capable of.

go judges!! :p

Private health care can be a great aspect to our health care system.
